Serving as a member of a risk-sharing pool board of directors can be rewarding but also challenging. Risk-sharing pools have many unique characteristics and require leaders to understand complex financial projections and emerging market trends that may impact pool members today and tomorrow.

The composition of risk-sharing pools’ governing bodies varies substantially between agencies, including differences in the selection of board members and the background of each member. New board members may have significant or little to no governance experience. Pool board members are unique since they are both a governing official of a California public entity and part of the competitive market-driven world of coverages. As a recognized voice of JPAs, the California Association of Joint Powers Authorities (CAJPA) is taking the lead in offering this comprehensive leadership training for CAJPA members to shares best practices in governance and leadership with governing officials.

This program is part of the CAJPA Summit Series, and attendees will walk away with a complete understanding of their roles and responsibilities in governing risk-sharing pools.

  • Evaluating a potential member for a pool
  • An overview of CAJPA’s member benefits (safety programs, wellness programs, etc.)

This program promises to be a “must” for all risk-sharing pool governing officials! Attendees will learn about resources and tools that can assist them in making effective decisions. Governing officials will gain a thorough overview of risk-sharing pool requirements and key competencies for good governance and leadership to enhance their overall board experience.
