Distribution Operator I/II or Production Operator I/II

About Us…
The Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD), located in Sacramento, California, is a publicly owned and operated water utility formed in 2002 resulting from the merger of two agencies. SSWD provides water to its customers from 72 operational groundwater wells. In addition, SSWD has contractual rights to 26,064 acre-feet from the City of Sacramento water entitlement; and a contract to purchase up to 29,000 acre-feet of surface water per year from Placer County Water Agency. SSWD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors.

The Positions…
Distribution Operator I/II
The Distribution Operator I/II performs a variety of duties in the operation, installation, maintenance and repair of water distribution facility systems, including repairing main and service line leaks and breaks; installing, repairing and maintaining water system infrastructure such as water mains, gate valves, meter connections, angle stops, service pipes, corporation stops and appurtenances; responding to customer complaints; and other duties as assigned.

Production Operator I/II
The Production Operator I/II performs a variety of skilled maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance on production facilities; regulates and controls the amount of chemicals used to maintain specified water treatment requirements; operates complex field test equipment; performs instrumentation calibration and low voltage electrical troubleshooting; investigates water quality complaints; and other duties as assigned.

The Production and Distribution Operator I/II are considered a “first responder” during emergency conditions; candidates must live within thirty (30) minutes travel time of the District’s Corporation Yard (5331 Walnut Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95841).

The Ideal Candidate…
The Distribution and Production Operator I/II will posses the knowledge of materials and equipment used in water distribution and production facility systems and princilples and practices of good customer service and work safety.

Qualified candidates will have…

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Distribution/Production Operator I:

  • No experience necessary.

Distribution/Production Operator II:

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing duties involving the operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution facility systems at a level equivalent to a Distribution/Production Operator I.

License: Valid Driver’s License issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and proof of good driving record as evidenced by the absence of multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for at least two (2) years duration. The driving record will not contribute to an increase in SSWD’s automobile rates. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be considered for accommodation on a case-by-case basis.

Distribution/Production Operator I:

  • Possession and maintenance of a State of California Water Distribution Operator Certificate Grade D1 and Treatment Operator Certificate Grade T1, or ability to obtain Grade D1 certificate within 1 year of employment and Grade T1 certificate within 2 years of employment.

Distribution/Production Operator II:

  • Possession and maintenance of a State of California Water Distribution Operator Certificate Grade D2 and Water Treatment Operator Certificate Grade T2.

Compensation and Benefits…
Distribution/Production Operator I:

  • $25.44 – $31.80 per hour.

Distribution/Production Operator II:

  • $27.98 - $34.98 per hour.
