  • Mark Hazelwood / Kim Chin - Allen Glaessner Hazelwood & Worth
  • Craig Schweikhard - SMCSIG
  • Chris Carmona - George Hills

Your community has just gone through a devastating fire and is starting to recover. That is when the real pain starts for your liability program. You are about to be inundated with claims and litigation. This session will discuss the ins and outs of post-fire claims and what needs to be done to prepare for the complex litigation that is about to follow. Tort claims, inverse condemnation claims and not just from the residents of your communities, the “big bad” and well-funded insurance carriers are coming too. The complexity of dealing with multiple other public agencies and utilities that may share jurisdiction over the areas in question also make these claims a nightmare. This session will prepare you to anticipate what is coming and be prepared.

Session 2: You Can’t Make This Stuff Up-  How to assess lawsuit allegations, defend your Officers and live to tell about it

  • Kevin DeHoff - Angelo, Kilday & Kilduff
  • Craig Schweikhard - SMCSIG
  • Pat Vitale - George Hills

You’ve just received a complaint alleging some of the strangest circumstances you’ve ever heard.  Now what???  Where do you start?? Is this really covered?  Should we move it from State to Federal Court??  This session will provide tools to assess allegations as plead, analyze coverage under the applicable MOC/MOU, and provide you with strategies for cost effective litigation management.  Along the way, you’ll receive tips on how to effectively communicate with your Police Chief, your Risk Manager, your defense counsel and even other outside agencies
